How to Make a Beach Wedding Theme Work

It's the time of the year to be planning your nuptials by the sea. The winter storms are winding down in preparation for the day they give way to those days of glorious sunshine that we all love so much. Fortunately, it perfectly aligns with the traditional wedding seasons making a beach wedding a natural choice. Fortunately the prevalence of beach related materials available means that nearly anyone can put together a beach wedding. This is true even if they have no access to an actual beach at all!

The trick to planning any kind of themed wedding is to narrow your focus. Far too often brides decide they want a beach wedding and that's where they stop their planning efforts and begin gathering decor items. As a result they pick up anything that; 1. captures their fancy, and 2. reminds them in any way of the ocean. As a result, pretty soon their budget is spent and they don't really have anything more than a box full of sea shells, some plastic flower leis, and a few Frisbees.

Instead they should choose an aspect of beach life that stirs their imagination and look for ways to make every item in your wedding lend to your beach theme. For example, if you chose a lighthouse themed wedding, you might want to choose a restaurant on a bluff with lots of windows looking out over the ocean. Or, if you are not able to have the celebration near the ocean, you could play the sounds of waves crashing on the rocks and hold your event at night with a slowly rotating light mounted high above your dance floor to give the illusion that your wedding is being held in a large lighthouse.

Now continue the lighthouse theme. What elements are characteristic of lighthouse scenes? Light? Fog? The sound of waves crashing on the beach? Lighthouses? Raincoats? Umbrellas? Rocks? Ships? Sailboats? The list goes on.

Choose one or two and build your beach theme wedding around them. For example, if you chose the sailboats aspect of a lighthouse theme you could borrow a sail to hang as a tapestry on the wall and perhaps a small dingy or standing in the corner. Then do an internet search for sailboat or lighthouse themed favors to adorn your reception tables and express your gratitude to your wedding guests.

The advantage of such a tact is that if you choose your accessories and favors well, you won't have to spend as much on decor because those favors and accessories will go a long way to creating your theme.

But don't stop there! Starting with your dress, consider how every element of your wedding serves or detracts from your theme. For a beach wedding a dress with a long train, for example, might not be the right choice. There are, however, a number of beautiful styles that have been designed with beach weddings in mind, or under the inspiration of mermaids.

Once you found your gown, then you might want to choose barefoot sandals with shells and pearls instead of high heels.

Then it's on to the wedding cake, flowers, music, and all the other details that we have come to expect in a wedding. Evaluate each element in terms of how it can advance the theme. The days of importing the standard Victorian theme wedding into every setting are over. Trying to do so runs the risk of spending more money than necessary and getting a less memorable wedding.

Instead, the key to building a beach wedding theme (or any theme) is focus on that theme. Don't worry so much about building a wedding, build the theme. It will be a wedding when the bride and groom are there exchanging vows and celebrating their new life together with their loved ones at their side.

Remember, the beach wedding theme is entirely too broad. But by zeroing in on a specific aspect like sea animals, or surfing, or mariner, you can create a wedding theme that will be remembered for years to come.

Building a Beach Wedding Theme (Even in the Off Season)

As the fall and winter wedding season approaches, fewer and fewer people consider planning a beach themed wedding. That is understandable. Unless you are fortunate enough to be able to marry in Hawaii, the on the Mediterranean coast, Mexico or one of the Caribbean isles the weather seams to preclude a beach themed wedding.

So it would seem.

Actually, with little consideration of the wealth of possible theme variations, accessories, and all the beach themed wedding favors available there is no basis to believe you can not construct a beach wedding that fits your passion and style - even in Boston in February!

Just like anything else, a beach wedding can take many different forms. Far too often, brides never think beyond the word beach and then afterwards wonder why their beach wedding theme never really had the zing they were hoping for.

Consider Your Beach Wedding Theme

Your beach wedding theme is obvious isn't it? It's the beach! Okay, but what do you think of when you think of the beach. If you know that you can cut out everything you might otherwise do or buy that does not bring you closer to your dream of building a beach wedding in the off season.

Let me show you what I mean: I love storm watching at the beach. So if I were planning a beach themed wedding for myself, I'd look for a hotel ballroom, old mansion, or restaurant with a view of the beach and schedule my wedding during the stormy season. There is nothing like hanging with friends, with a warm drink in our hands watching the oceans rage.

Perhaps, your idea of the beach is the classic old lighthouses. Build a beach wedding that centers around the lighthouse motif. Rent an old lighthouse (or lighthouse visitor's center) if you can find one that will accommodate your party and is available. If not find a suitable location (preferably within earshot of the pounding of the surf) and decorate with the lighthouse theme in mind.

A nighttime wedding celebration within earshot of the roar of the sea is also the perfect opportunity to combine a beach wedding reception theme with a fairytale wedding theme to create a mermaid themed wedding.

There are so many more possible beach wedding theme variations: The boardwalk, the marina, Hawaiian paradise, and the classic nod to the weathered mariner.

Choose a Centerpiece for Your Beach Wedding Theme

One of the central tenants of planning any wedding decor is that you must start with the item that you want your guests to focus on when you are not in the room. In theory this can be anything. In practice this is usually the wedding cake or an ice sculpture. For example, for a lighthouse wedding you might commission an ice sculpture of a lighthouse and then have it backlit to help it to grab attention.

Tip: Have someone dim the light on the ice sculpture when it is time for your entrance, then allow the light to come back to half strength once you have made your entrance.

Consider the Details for your Beach Wedding Theme

Having taken care of the big items it is now time to take care of the details of your theme. After all, it is the details that complete your theme. Fortunately, by planning this way, you won't need to spend a lot of money on balloons, streamers, and cheap looking plastic fish or beach balls to complete your beach wedding theme because most of the theme is already be completed by your location choice and your centerpiece.

Rather, choose your wedding favors and centerpieces carefully to go with your theme. For most beach wedding themes, a simple search of beach wedding favors with your specific aspect of that theme in mind will be enough to find the right gift for your guests that will complete your decor and provide your friends and loved ones a great keepsake of your wedding. For example, a beach fairytale wedding theme might want to search for Cinderella wedding favors, or the silver, or crystal wedding favors to find the right touch for their decor.

Ultimately the key to planning anything, weddings included, comes down to knowing precisely what you want before you set out to create it. It is certainly true of building a beach wedding theme without the beach. That way you only spend money on items that specifically bring you one step closer to your goal.

Your Medieval Themed Wedding Dress

What could be more romantic than a medieval themed wedding? There is little in our consciousness that is imbued with more romantic images. But in order to have this type of wedding you need to look for wedding dresses with a medieval theme. After all, would your favorite movie work for you if the actors wore in clothing that did not fit the theme of the movie? The same is true with planning a medieval themed wedding. You will end up undermining your own medieval themed wedding if you do not take the effort to find a wedding dress that will support your wedding theme.

Fortunately, finding this type of wedding gown is normally fairly simple since most bridal shops now carry medieval themed wedding gowns. But even if no shop in your area carries a gown that fits your theme you are not out of luck. From private dress designers to charity wedding dress sales your opportunities to find the wedding dress that fits your specific wedding are nearly as limitless as your imagination and perseverance.

These wedding dresses with a medieval theme usually have elaborate embroiderer and are even available with gold stitching. These are some of the most beautiful wedding gowns available.

Wedding dresses with a medieval theme have become so popular today, that there are designers who devote their efforts to creating masterpieces in this specific fashion. Dresses from popular designers are often available to view on the internet. Why not take some time and browse around for that perfect dress to set off your medieval theme.

The classic medieval style of wedding dress is slim fitting - flaring out to fullness at the hem. A girdle or corset is generally worn above the hips and laced in front. The sleeves are generally tight to the wrist with a shorter open sleeve cascading to hem level.

These wedding dresses with a medieval theme usually have elaborate embroidery and are even available with gold stitching. These are some of the most beautiful wedding gowns available.

Once you have made up your mind to have this type of wedding, and have found that perfect gown to compliment your theme, why not outfit your entire wedding party in a medieval theme style.

Medieval style bridesmaids dresses are readily available at specialty bridal shops as is the wedding gown. The male members of the wedding party might have a more difficult time finding appropriate dress, but it is usually no problem if you look for period dress at theatrical clothing outlets.

Shopping for wedding dresses with a medieval theme is fun and exciting, and one of these gowns will truly make you a memorable bride.

Designing A Winter Theme Wedding

Winter, with its gently falling snow, heartwarming holidays and clear, moonlit nights - brings an undeniable magic to winter weddings. The winter season is magical and inviting, and invokes warm memories of holiday celebrations surrounded by friends and family – and is the perfect time to bring to life the magic of the season with a celebration of marriage. If you are planning on a winter wedding, there are many ideas on the market today to add the sparkle of winter to your day, and bring the magic of winter indoors.

The Ceremony

Decorating for your winter wedding can be a magical time in itself, with so many options to choose from, it may be hard to decide just what to select. Pew bows can be made in crisp white, cool ice blue, silver, or even made with sheer, sparkly tulle to add shimmer and shine to your ceremony. Add a snowflake charm to the bottom of each bow

If you are planning on having a flower girl, she can scatter ice blue, silver and white petals to bring the winter season to your walk down the aisle. You can also toss some snowflake confetti in with her flowers to toss. You may even want to prep the aisle runner with silver or iridescent glitter to add shine and sparkle to the aisle. If you don’t want to toss glitter down, check your local craft store for sparkle fabric spray paint and gently spray your aisle runner – it will add shine to the fabric without shifting while you walk.

The altar at the ceremony can be dressed in pretty white winter flowers, wood inspired sprays, even glistening dried silver dollar plants – which are reminiscent of ornaments hanging from a tree. For your unity candle ceremony, select a winter inspired candle. If you can not locate a winter unity candle you love, you can purchase a white pillar candle and adorn it with scattered rhinestones (like falling snow), ribbons and a winter theme charm to make your own winter unity candle.

The Reception

Your reception decorations are where you can really have fun with your winter wedding. The tables can be draped in cool whites, silver or ice blues. Scatter your tables with fluffy snow, or add shimmer with snowflake confetti. Light up the room with tea lights or candles surrounding the centerpieces, or placed strategically around each table.

Place card holders can be sparkly silver, iridescent white or small silver and ice blue balls which look like ornaments. The most multi-tasking place card holder out there though are these beautiful Snowflake Place Card Holder / Ornament Winter Wedding Favors which not only serve as place card holders with stand on back, but they can hold a picture as well, serve as an ornament for your guests, or even be used as a refrigerator magnet.

For centerpieces, purchase small table top sized trees. Decorate the bases in fabric and ribbon to match your color scheme. You can spray the tips with snow, dress them up with mini white or blue battery operated lights, and you can even tie small favors such as ornaments, bookmarks or key chains to the branches. Another idea for a tall centerpiece is to purchase tall vases, fill with crystal gems and place tall lighted spray branches or tall glittered spray branches in each vase. You could also purchase crystal (or crystal like) bowls, and fill with ornaments in your color scheme. Each ornament could then serve as a favor for your guests to take home.

Your wedding cake can be dusted with silver edible glitter, which adds shine and is not overpowering. Your cake can be decorated with icicles and snowflakes – maybe even top it off with a bride and groom snow-couple cake topper. The icing can be in your winter colors. Perhaps even have a tiered snowflake cake; each layer can be a different shape – after all no to snowflakes are alike!

For drinks you can offer white and ice blue martinis. Add snowflake or snowman stirrer sticks!

If you really want to go all out, if your reception hall allows, you can string mini lights over trees, topiaries, banisters, and such. You could also hang from the ceiling snowflakes at different lengths.

Winter Wedding Favors

There is no limit to the beautiful winter wedding favors on the market today. This year edible wedding favors are extremely popular, and there are many candies which could double as winter themed. Hot Cocoa packs personalized with your names and date is also a cute touch.

For sparkle, you can add to each place setting Kate Aspen’s new Snowflake Gel Candle, which with the ice-blue gel, sparkling with silver glitter, uniquely shaped glass container with a dazzling, silver-studded snowflake embedded on the front will wow your guests and instantly add color and shimmer to your reception tables.

For a bit of staying power in your guests’ homes, mini snow globes, snowflake bottle stoppers, or snowflake photo coasters all will leave a lasting impression.

Your winter wedding will be beautiful, memorable and inspiring to your guests. If you love all things the winter season brings, then incorporate the magic of the season into every aspect of your wedding day.

Tips to Choose Your Wedding Theme

You will probably need to choose your wedding theme when you starting planning for your big day. The choices for your other wedding items such as invitation and gown will probably follow the theme so that your wedding can become a whole unique event. In fact, there are quite a number of different themes you can choose from. Some of the most popular choices are beach wedding and winter theme wedding. In this article, tips about choosing the theme will be discussed.

You will first of all consider the season and time of the year you will have your wedding. It will be nonsense to plan for a winter white wedding if you are going to host it in summer. Considering the season, you may even try to relate your big day to the festivals. One of the most obvious possibilities is certainly Christmas. If you are going to have your big day on the Christmas day, you can certainly make your wedding ceremony and reception a Christmas party. Adding some seasonal favors to your wedding can make your big day more unique.

You will also need to choose between the notions of formal and informal wedding. Some couples will believe that a wedding should always be a formal event and it makes no sense to plan for an informal one. On the contrary, some other couples may think that the essence of a wedding is sharing the joy and happiness with their beloved ones. As a consequence, these couples may go for a more informal wedding. Once you make your decision on this matter, it will be quite difficult for you to change. It can be a mess if you change your mind at the middle of your wedding planning. For example, you may need to pay extra if you have originally ordered your wedding invitation in a formal style but you change it to an informal design when it is being printed.

Besides the choice between formal and informal, you will also need to consider if you want a traditional or modern wedding. You may choose to have your wedding in a church and this will most probably be more traditional. In this case your choice of wedding gown may also be more traditional. Since all the traditional choices are usually well developed, you may somehow find it easier to plan for a traditional wedding. However, some couples nowadays may want to go for something different and unique so that the big day reflects the life style of them.

The budget is also an important consideration when you are choosing your theme. If you are on budget, you may choose a theme which can help to save you money. A beach wedding is considered a more economical choice of theme. Of course there are always ways to save money no matter what your theme is. However, no one can deny that some themes may render a cheaper wedding. As a result, you may need to avoid themes that will certainly cost you more if you are not planning to spend so much money.

2007 Fall and Autumn Wedding Favor Ideas

If you are having a fall wedding and are looking for fall wedding favor ideas, there are plenty of great autumn theme favors on the market to select from. In fact, with so many options available today, a bride considering a fall themed wedding may want to consider using more than one favor to incorporate the theme all around her reception. If you are using a specific color scheme for your fall wedding, you may want to stick to your color palate. However, all the fall colors compliment each other, so it is also very easy to mix all the colors of the season without going overboard or have color overload.

For some great fall wedding favors which can also double as decorations and add color to your wedding, check out these suggestions:

First, let’s consider fall place card holders. When you think of fall, the image which comes to mind most often are colored leaves or falling leaves. Bring the season indoors with leaf themed place card holders which will allow you to not only arrange your place cards, but will add a punch of golden color to your reception.

To add a touch of color to your tables or centerpieces, consider using fall themed candles. Is there a more romantic image than a fall evening with dimly lit streetlights, colorful leaves falling onto the sidewalk? Charming fall candle favors will capture the ambience of an autumn night and make a colorful presentation at every table or place setting. Consider using fall colored tealights, leaf shaped tealight holders, or some taller votives.

Displaying your wedding cake is one of the highlights of the wedding. Add a seasonal touch with fall themed cake shaped candles surrounding your cake.

If you are thinking of having a candy buffet table as an after dinner dessert or wedding favor, consider fall themed mint tins packed with cinnamon candies, or fall inspired personalized Hershey Kisses or Miniatures. If you are thinking of edible favors, you could also hand out personalized hot cocoa packs in a fall theme.

You may also want to present your guests with a useful fall wedding favor to take home with them. Our suggestions are:

    · Fall Themed Photo Albums – miniature albums which are beautifully made with real leaves pressed in mulberry paper. These albums usually hold 40, 4” x 6” pictures and will bring the great outdoors indoors to you.

    · Fall Themed Wine Stoppers – Your guests will be stopping up the wine bottles but there’ll be no stopping the memories each time your guests make use of these festive autumn wedding favors in their homes. Each is bronze colored stopper is packaged in a tall 360 degree clear box with matching bronze accents, which is the perfect to display at each place setting.

    · Autumn Photo Coasters - With imprints of fall leaves, the rich burgundy coasters add flair to any autumn wedding reception, bridal shower or outdoor event. Photo coasters can be used in any number of ways at your wedding: frame a photo of the happy couple, use as a place card holder; or simply display the beautiful "For You" message to guests when they sit at their assigned tables.

    · Leaf shaped Bookmarks – As you embark on a new chapter in your life during this glorious season, share the promise of a happy ending with a lovely leaf-shaped bookmark wedding favor. Bookmarks are great for guests, young and old (they make a great favor for children too), and will add that magical fallen leaf feel when you scatter these on your reception tables.

Those are just some of the many ways you can incorporate fall and autumn themed favors into your wedding as both favors and decorations. With all the lovely ideas out there, I am sure you will be amazed at what you can incorporate into your wedding day.

Are you planning a winter theme wedding?
Close your eyes and picture winter. What do you picture? I bet that whether you live in an area that experiences real winter or not, you see sparkling, crisp snow that is so white it sometimes looks bluish.

Winter Wedding colors and wedding attire
Winter is best represented by white, silver, platinum and light blue. These are the perfect color choice for a winter theme wedding. You can incorporate these colors in the bride, groom and wedding attendants attire. White for the bride and groom, light blue and / or silver for the attendants. However, you have other options too. You may have the bridesmaids dresses made of fabric with snow flakes or stars motif that may even accented with white fur like fabric. Since you are planning gifts for your bridesmaids and flower girls, present them with Swarovski crystal on silver with or without pearls, or pearl jewelry on silver. Tiaras should also be studded with swarovski crystals and or pearls on silver. The Swarovski jewelry glitsens like snow in the sun while pearls offer the prism. What a wonderful yet inexpensive way to have your bridal party match the winter theme of your wedding.

Choose Winter Theme Invitations and Stationery.
Whether holiday, or season related, there are many winter scene stationery items and invitations available to choose from, including do it yourself - print your own stationery.

    Winter Wedding Reception:

  • Look for a reception hall that has a fireplace. If lighting a real fire is not permitted, use make-believe logs that look like real lit fireplace. Many stores carry them. You may also check with your local theater or college drama department for props.
  • Use silver serving pieces, glass or crystal drinkwear and winter white dishes.
  • Decorate with silver, white, platinum and light blue. Use one of the colors or coordinate these colors for your table cloths and napkins, garlands, streamers, icicles, tinsel, balloons, ribbons, flowers with silver ribbons in silver vases, flickering light strings, snow flakes or stars etc... You may wish to spray your decorations with sparkle or fake snow. White and blue tulle will also help create a winter atmosphere.
  • If you can afford it, hire an ice sculptor. If not, do it yourself, make your own ice sculpture with kits available for purchase. Ice sculptures will be a magnificent addition. If your wedding reception venue permits it, be sure to use candles to depict warmth. Either or both, ice sculpture and candles make very elegant centerpieces.

    Ideas For Winter Wedding Centerpieces:

Eight Exotic Ideas to Make Your Beach Wedding Hot!

Though we're heading into autumn and winter, keep in mind that it's always summer somewhere, so if you want a beach wedding - no matter what time of year it is - pick a hot spot and start planning! Destination and theme weddings are becoming increasingly popular, and the demand for themed wedding accessories is growing, too. Here are eight cool ways to set the mood for your wedding party in paradise...

    1. Use tropical-themed invitations to request the presence of your wedding guests. Themed wedding invitations are one of the wedding industry's hottest trends.
    2. Splash the colors of the tropics at your wedding ceremony and wedding reception. Bring bright colors like canary yellow, tangerine, cherry red and turquoise to your decorations, your wedding favors and your wedding cake.
    3. What's more tantalizingly tropical than Hawaii? Welcome your wedding guests with real or silk leis. The fragrance of real flowers and the spectacular colors will permeate your wedding reception and set the very mood you have in mind.
    4. Take those gorgeous tropical flowers - birds of paradise, ginger, hibiscus and orchids - and festoon your ceremony, wedding reception hall and even your wedding cake with these jewels of the islands.
    5. If you want to stay true to Hawaiian tradition, include origami cranes in your wedding reception décor. According to legend, cranes live for 1,000 years and they're considered a symbol of good luck for the couple's long and happy life together.
    6. You'll go wild with wedding favor choices for a beach wedding reception! Imagine thanking your wedding guests with miniature beach pails filled with candies, a seashell bottle opener, miniature Adirondack chair tea lights, flip-flop photo frames or beach ball bottle stoppers. There are so many beach-themed wedding favors on the market, you'll have fun looking - and a hard time choosing!
    7. Got the urge to go all out? Kick your indoor tropical atmosphere up a notch with tiki huts or beach umbrellas. Speaking of umbrellas, make sure your bar is stocked with the necessary alcohol and accessories (i.e. little umbrellas!) for making those luscious tropical delights, like "A Day at the Beach", pina coladas, mai tais, mojitos and daiquiris - banana and strawberry!
    8. Create exotic centerpieces on colorful tablecloths! Combinations of driftwood, conch shells, starfish and candles add to the ambience and impress your wedding guests. Surround glowing hurricane lamps with island flowers. Fill clear glass bowls with seashells and water, and float a candle on top. Even simple bouquets of island flowers bring a tropical atmosphere to your wedding reception tables.

Beach weddings are the perfect way to bring both romance and fun to the moment of a lifetime. Sunset, surf, sultry tropical breezes and a banana daiquiri topped with a tiny umbrella - rest assured your day will be a dream fulfilled for your wedding guests and for you!

Beach Weddings - Great Ideas To Plan a Perfect Beach Themed Wedding

Getting married on the beach is a dream come true for many brides and grooms. But bringing that dream to reality takes some planning.

    Wedding Guests

Watching beach weddings with the ocean as your backdrop is absolutely beautiful. But it may pose extra challenges for some of your guests. Wheelchair accessibility is often limited on many beaches, and may be something you want to look into during planning. You may also have some guests who will require assistance walking in the sand. Make sure your groomsmen are up to the challenge of getting everyone sat comfortably.

Make sure there are washroom facilities close to the site. Ensure that they will be unlocked, clean, and stocked during your wedding. If the washroom amenities leave a little to be desired, you may want to bring extra supplies, and even add some fresh flowers to the bathroom. Consider how you will feel about uninvited sunbathers crashing your beach wedding. If you get married on a public beach then your ceremony will be open to the public. If the idea of strangers watching your ceremony bothers you then you might consider renting a private beach for the ceremony.

    Weather Considerations

Weather is definitely a consideration during planning, but not something that you can control. But you can make some adjustments to better your odds of having a picture perfect beach setting. Once you have picked the beach of your choice, then select a wedding date that is during their typically dry season, and avoid the rainy season. Definitely steer clear of hurricane season. And just in case Mother Nature isn't cooperating the day of your it, have a back-up location or a tent ready in case the weather is just too nasty to say your I do's beachside.

Ocean tides need to be considered when picking a time for your beach wedding. Tides can creep up on you quickly, and you don't want ocean water soaking your guest's feet before they've announced, "You may now kiss the bride." Pick your wedding ceremony location in a section of the beach that is not affected by the tides. Bugs are also a consideration when picking a date and a time. Mosquitoes and other flying pests come out in force at certain times of the day, and during certain seasons, depending on your beach location.

Check out your specific beach location and visit it during the time you plan to have your wedding. You may want to try and guess when sunset will hit, or decide if a morning ceremony is more your style. Some beaches have annoying glares at certain times of the day, and others have unpleasant odors if the tide has just gone out.

    Keeping to the Beach Theme...

Make sure that the beach style is how you want to go for your ceremony. Beach wedding ceremonies are typically more casual than traditional church weddings. A bride who weds on the beach usually forgoes the white gown and long train for a simple white sundress, and the groom often wears khaki's and a light colored shirt. Guests also dress more casual, with Hawaiian shirts and sundresses.

The music differs from the traditional organ music. You might go with a soloist, a ukulele, or some steel drums. The food served at your reception can also reflect your beach theme. Many receptions serve seafood and fresh fruit.

You may also want to come up with creative wedding favors that go with your beach theme, like fun beach towels with your name and date on them, or margarita glasses. Although there is a certain amount of risk in planning a beach ceremony, if you make some arrangements ahead of time and are willing to take your chances, you could have a fantasy beach wedding.
